Chick 'n Brush with Pineapple

As boyfriends and girlfriends, we, Eric and Jenny, never wanted to be "plain ordinary". That's why we planned to do some things that would make us grow together, not just as partners, but as individuals. One of those plans is to..
Teach something the other does not know.

It was the Thursday of April 28, 2011 when Eric went over Jenny's house to make one of the plans come true. It was Eric's turn first to learn. Jenny believes she is better than Eric at only two things: she can bike faster than him, and she knows how to cook well. That day was for the cooking part, and the menu of the day was...*tedeng!* Chicken Adobo with Pineapple.

Eric says:  I really don’t know how to cook. I have tried frying and cooking noodles but other than that, I know nothing. Having my girlfriend teach me how to cook is a new thing. This was the first time she would teach me something I do not know completely. That made this exciting!

I went to the market with her. Then when we got home, we started cooking. It was so hard. We cooked adobo, a very easy recipe and yet, everything was so difficult. It seemed so annoying every time she laughed at me. Honestly, I always do well in things that I can do. However, doing things like this has made me fun of myself. I learned that there are things you cannot do well, but others can do without much effort. So we need other people. Why not just let her cook for me? But that excuse would have no effect to her. I have to learn.

Jenny saysIt was really funny how he sliced the onions and garlic, how hard he tried to open the can of pineapples with a knife because we don't have any can opener at the kitchen (he swore it will be the first thing he will buy once we got married. LOL!), and how fearfully he put the chicken to the frying pan with boiling hot oil. But despite all these, I was still the laughing material of the day. I did a very tragic mistake. The adobo was about to be cooked when I thought of putting some sugar to sweeten up the sauce a little. I put a spoonful of sugar. The sauce tasted salty. I put some more sugar. And some more. I put some vinegar, too, to ease up the saltiness, but no matter what I do, it was still salty. Until I realized, it was IODIZED SALT I was putting to the food all these time. Anyways, the remedy to that was as simple as three glassfuls of water. *laughing out loud*.

Eric says: We ate after cooking. It tasted good, but of course she helped me a bit. She complemented me that the way the chicken has been cooked was great. I felt relieved. At least something good came out of my first cooking experience.

Then it was Jenny's turn to learn. Eric has a lot of things to teach her. We'll do those bit by bit. First off: photo editing with Photoshop.

Eric says: I learned photoshop by self-study. Now, I tried to teach her photoshop and the the first thing was removing the background of the picture using just the eraser tool, which was so laborious. This was to teach patience and accuracy of strokes. And as usual,it was nearly impossible for her to do it well *chuckles*. Before, I was her laughing stock. Now, it's my turn. :D

Learning photoshop using shortcuts may be hard, but it will help her operate photoshop easier in the next weeks. I'm glad that my Jenny is a fast learner. I tried teaching other people, but she learned faster, although the erasing part was very funny *hahaha!*.

Sometimes she just panics in my instructions like, "Ctrl + D!!!Ctrl + J!!!, etc." and other times i just do the polishing, just like when she tried to solve that salty chicken adobo.

Jenny says: I knew some basic things with photoshop. But yah, it was now his turn to laugh at me when I helplessly erased the background of our picture. We are really meant to be. Why? Because we are both bullies! *LOL* Anyways, there's not much to tell about, but to show the product of my sweat and blood.

For motivation, we have chocolates as the prize: A Kitkat bar and dark chocolate MM's. Yumyum! We're both happy that we are learning new things. And there's many more to come!!!
